Women in Public Relations Ghana has organised its third annual summit to promote the need for women in public relations (PR) to collaborate in the quest to attain leadership positions.
The summit held in Accra on July 6, 2019, was aimed at helping members develop and apply emotional intelligence to leadership in their respective fields of work.
Held under the theme, “Collaborate, Inspire, Lead,” the third edition of the annual summit sought to foster strategic collaborations among female PR practitioners and to inspire participants to fulfil leadership ambitions at their workplaces.
Speaking at the summit, the founder of Women in PR Ghana, Faith Senam Ocloo, was full of gratitude to all participants.
“This year’s summit was organized with the aims and standards that will bring us at par with the rest of the world to promote great collaborations and partnerships with global and local organizations and their various stakeholders,” she said.
Ms. Ocloo believed that it was through collaboration that women in PR would learn to lead, grow stronger, inspire and effect change.
The summit also challenged female PR practitioners to be proactive and lead in developing strategies that add value to their organisations and the industry as a whole.
The speakers for this year’s summit were Adiki O. Ayitevie, Vice President, Sustainability & External Relations, Newmont Gold Corp Africa; Sophia Lissah, Group Head, Communications, Jospong Group of Companies; Gabriel Opoku-Asare, Head of Society Africa, Diageo PLC; and Clarence Amoatey, General Manager, Touchpoint Magna Carta.
There was also a panel discussion on the topic: Developing and Applying Emotional Intelligence to Leadership. The panel session was moderated by Joy FM’s Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku.
Panel members for the discussion included Cynthia Ofori Dwumfuo, PR Business Lead, Ogilvy Ghana; Mrs Baaba Cofie, Senior PR Consultant, Mahogany Consult; Emma Wenani, Chief Director, Global Media Alliance; and Dr Eric Rhiney, Chair, Management Department, Webster University Ghana Campus.
The year’s event brought together young PR Professionals, aspiring Senior PR Executives, academics, researchers, students and industry persons. The summit served as a learning platform for students, practitioners and people who want to transit into PR.
