She goes by the name Dufie or the Mask Girl and portrays that with the mask she wears on stage.
Though she has been in the industry for a while now, she is yet to come out with an album but has three single hits to her credit.
Her latest titled ‘Atadwe’ which was released this year is making waves enjoying playing time on some of the radio stations in Ghana.
Even though she said females in the industry are proving their worth, she indicated that the lack of support for female musicians was making it difficult for women to make the desired impact in the industry.
According to her, there are lots of good female artistes out there who are unable to hit the limelight due to the unprofessional behaviours of their producers.
She said most producers demand sex before helping female artistes. This, she said, is deterring lots of female musicians from pursuing their passion.
She said many of the producers are unable to separate pleasure from business and would want to mix both.
For her, things do not work that way and would want to stick to the business aspect “but many of them do not like that.”
According to her, those who are unwilling to mix the two, do not get the necessary support to push them far in the industry.
She is advocating for the setting up of investment fund to support solely female musicians to develop their talents and push them to the level of their male counterparts.
Dufie was born Mayfred Sarkodie and hails from Poano in the Bekwai District of the Ashanti region and does live performances as well.
She has been in the music industry for eight years now. Her first single titled ‘Menye wo den’ was released four years ago and was followed by ‘Mene waa’ three years later.
